Hello and greetings my fellow foodies!
I’m going to take a short break from
our usual food updates and I’m going to talk about something worth talking
about; apart from our updates of course.
‘Buy a Korean bento at $40, and you may
be feeding 150 hungry people.’
A unique and
creative initiative organized by the Food Bank Singapore to get Singaporeans to
start donating and also providing meals to the needy in Singapore. You may ask,
what is a food bank?
‘Food Bank, is a place where companies or people can come to deposit
/ donate their unused or unwanted foods which will then be collected and
allocated to the Needy via various channels through VWOS, Charities, Soup
Kitchens etc...’

There are various similar organisations
that provide food for the needy and also to welfare homes island-wide. One honourable
mention will be, Food from the Heart, who with the support of volunteers and bakeries
and hotels around Singapore, unsold bread is distributed to welfare homes on a
daily basis.
SO WHAT?!
I believe that must be the question
some of you are thinking. Most of us here, we are considered fortunate to be
able to afford fancy food (that’s why you are here), however, there are
Singaporeans who don’t have the luxury to eat out, let alone, eating at home.
It’s very unfortunate that there still is lower income Singaporeans who
struggle daily just to get another meal.
How can you help?
If you’re home, go ahead and
ransack your kitchen for any unused food supplies and head down to The Food
Bank and drop off your donations. Don’t have any food but have any excess cash
in handy? It’s time to empty and make your wallet lighter and drop a donation!
(Go café free for a week!) It doesn’t matter if it’s small, because every
little bit counts.
Let’s reach out and give a helping
hand, and together we can make a difference.
Till the next update fellow
foodies,
ChocoOsaurus.
