Who doesn’t love food? But have we ever thought how much food we have ordered because we are so hungry? Or can we finish what we bought? Sometimes, we all are guilty of throwing unfinished food away. This is indeed a problem to singaporeans and the society.

According to The National Environment Agency (NEA), Singapore has produced enough food waste to fill 600 Olympic sized swimming pool!! Imagine swimming inside a pool of rubbish dump! Now that’s not very cooling and relaxing now is it? With that much food that has gone to waste, many of us are still not aware of this.
Statistics have shown there’s been a 26 percent increase of food wastage.

Here is a picture to show how much waste is generated by everyone

If we don’t want this problem to happen then we have to take an action by recycling food. For me, I don’t usually order more than I actually consume. Even though when my tummy tells me to get more food. Isn’t it also a waste of money too when you don’t finish your food? So we should not let our money fly and taking food for granted.

Ways to reduce food waste

·         The R’s! reuse, reduce and recycle! Believe it or not, you can actually use your food waste as fertilisers for your plants! Your plant would be thanking you for ‘feeding’ it!

·         If you’re dining outside, one simple way is to separate the food waste in the recycling bin.

·         Donate your food! Sharing is caring! One organisation is Food from the Heart helping needy people who can’t afford to buy food.

There are people who cannot afford food. We should also be reminded that food is limited and that it is precious if we throw excess food away. Remember my foodies, a food that has gone to waste is a food less for the needy.
